If you have been looking for a church family to which you can belong, a place to love and be loved, and a place where you can grow in your relationship with God, we at Calvary Baptist Church would like to be that place. We invite you to come and see.

For over a hundred years, the Calvary Baptist Church of Torrington has been helping people find Christ and grow in their relationship with Him and each other. The church was organized in 1896 to provide a place of worship for Baptists (there was no Baptist church here) and to reach out to growing numbers of un-churched people coming into the city. Today, our purpose remains much the same: to bring praise and glory to God through worship; to love each other as family through fellowship; to help each other become like Christ through ministries of discipleship, to serve to one another in the Body of Christ though ministry; and to help others discover a relationship with Christ through evangelism.

We are evangelical, in that we proclaim that Jesus Christ provides the one and only way to a relationship with God that is real and lasting (John 14:6). We also believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. By that, we mean that every word of Scripture has been inspired by the Holy Spirit and deserves our belief and obedience (2 Timothy 3:16-17). However, while our beliefs are Biblical and orthodox, we express them in ways that are both contemporary and relevant.

While constantly striving to achieve "unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God" (Ephesians 4:13), we also celebrate our diversity. Many of our members have been in this church for fifty, sixty and even seventy years! Yet, we also strive to be a fellowship where young adults and teenagers can feel at home. We believe that different generations have much to offer each other.

Although we have been here for more than a century, we still like to think of ourselves as a "work in progress." Every day we are learning more how to live together as the Body of Christ in this world. "From him (Christ) the whole body, joined and held together by each supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work" (Ephesians 4:16). If you are looking for a Christian fellowship where you can grow in your love for God and others, then we invite you to come grow with us.
