The Singer/Songwriter Network officially started in September of 2009, as an initiative of ACT, the Arts & Culture Commission of Torrington. At that time, the “Performance Lab” was created to give artists an opportunity to practice and perform their original material, as well as to collaborate with other artist/musicians for performances and/or musical projects.
The mission of the Singer/Songwriter Network of Torrington is to support, develop and promote original artists performing original music. With increased focus and attention on Torrington as a growing arts community, one of the network’s major goals is to galvanize the local music community for greater creative and collaborative endeavors.
The network has also served the local music community at large by organizing music field trips to NYC, coordinating music venue co-ops, and sponsoring activities at alternative venues such as U-Conn Torrington campus and the Torrington Historical Society. It made sense for the network to expand and join in on the social media trend and in 2010 initiated a Facebook page. The network has garnered over 900 Facebook friends and has been utilized by many of its artist/members as an additional resource to promote their gigs and other activities.
Artist participation in the Singer/Songwriter Network of Torrington can assist the serious artist/musician in the development of their career goals. The Singer/Songwriter Network is committed to creative collaborations. We firmly believe the music industry will continue to be a growth industry in our region for years to come due to our community's unique blend of arts entities. Meanwhile, this network continues to strive to keep an ear to the vibes, sounds and rhythms that are happening in Torrington and throughout the Northwest corner or Connecticut, as we provide a unique back drop to facilitate this type of growth.
