Kath Bloom is an American singer-songwriter, legend of folk, country, blues and avant-garde music. Her intimate voice accompanies her soulful, poetic lyrics and haunting, melodic melodies. She has been making innovative records since the late 70's and has had her music featured in the movie Before Sunrise. |
The daughter of oboist Robert Bloom, Kath grew up in New Haven, CT where she studied the cello as a child and started playing the guitar when she was a teenager. She collaborated with Bruce Neumann in the early '70s, but it wasn't until she met avant-garde guitarist Loren MazzaCane Connors in 1976 that she started recording. Bloom and Connors recorded several albums weaving folk and blues melodies, the majority of which were written by Bloom. The collaboration ended in 1984 with the release of their final album, Moonlight, of which only 300 copies were pressed.

Loren and Kath split ways, each married to others. Kath pursued acting in NYC until she became pregnant. She continued writing and some recording. Married twice, first to Steve Bellwood, she had one son, Sebastian. Then married to Stan Bronski, she had Jack and Clyde. Her music became centered around Children's Music , Community Activism, and working with horses.
Living 11 years in Fl, she received grants for latchkey kids, and worked with babies, all the time, realizing how music was a primal need and "right" of all humans. She also continued to write and record, formed an all woman's band, and created music with musicians such as Peter Friedman and Ginny Williams. She also had COME HERE recorded by Richard Linklater for his film, BEFORE SUNRISE. At that time she was living way out in the Orange Groves, 8 miles from a paved road. Moving back to CT in 2000, she reunited with Tom Hanford to create and perform music, mostly for children. With the release of Chapter Music's FINALLY, interest grew that enabled Kath to perform and tour in USA and Europe.
