The Complete Drum Circle
with Susan Strand
June 23rd-27th
Each day of this class will include the making of a rhythm instrument where each child will make her/his own rain stick, rattle/shaker and coffee can drum. Each day will also include a discussion of rhythm and how we can express our rhythms with or without an instrument. World rhythms from Africa and South America will be taught and the children will play these rhythms first by clapping their hands, stamping their feet and slapping their thighs and then using the instruments that they made in class. The children will be encouraged to listen to the rhythms that they hear each day and will also be encouraged to teach the class their own rhythm that they made up themselves. During the last half-hour of the last day of class the children will perform some of the rhythms they have learned for their parents, grandparents and friends.
